About me

I am Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego from the Philippines. 24 years of age and a graduate of Bachelor of Arts Major in Psychology. I am a part of the National Chess Team of the Philippines and the 2022 Women's National Champion of the Philippines.

I am fond of kids and I love teaching.

Playing experience

I became a WFM when I was 12 and I got my WIM title at 18. I played in many international tournaments like ASEAN Age Groups, Southeast-Asian Games, Asian Youth, Asian Games, World Youth, World Juniors, Zonals, and many more. I also represented the Philippines in the recent World Olympiad in Chennai, India.

My recent achievement is being the 2022 Women's National Champion of the Philippines.

Teaching experience

I've started coaching professionally year 2020 during the pandemic (Happy 3 years!), but I've been helping a lot of fellow players before. Starting from my younger siblings, voluntary chess teaching for children, to my university teammates, to a school, I just love sharing my knowledge and experiences to help other people grow in their respectful careers. Being able to help my students achieve their goals is my main objective.

Other experiences

I also do exhibition matches like simultaneous games, attend tournaments as a guest speaker, I just love inspiring others in playing chess and promoting the sport for a bigger and better chess community. Some content-creation on the side, and other hobbies like playing other games or anything that challenges my mind, game!

Best skills

I am a positional player, I prefer positions that are more strategic than all-out aggressive. I am suited for calm positions where players' patience can be tested. I think my best skill my patience. Patience is very important in every part of a chess game and also in teaching. Aside from that, I believe that there is always a room for improvement and I always try to become better everyday. It is also significant to understand that when it comes to teaching and learning, there is no "one size fits all". Everyone is different in their own ways, and everybody has their own pace in progress.

Teaching methodology

I prepare lessons for each student differently and I base it on the assessment results. The first meeting with a student would be an assessment and there, I'll plan on what to do in the upcoming sessions.
