A rather odd request...

That seems unhelpful, given that they said they enjoy and use the chat function, and it's only the forums that are an issue.

Is it though? The chat is usually used for actual chess-related discussion. The poster has an issue only with the off-topic forum, not the chat or anything else - they've already mentioned this!
@TudbuTde "usually" as you said...but the chat is often used for something else...as it says there "Please be nice in the chat" is indicative that it may go to inappropriate comments either insults, dumb or weird comments (I get often "where are you from") .

PS: not knowing Canada is not dumb but weird if someone is on the internet.
@CanadaQuebec That makes sense, and of course chat really can become weird, but still I doubt it's as big of a problem considering they explicitly wanted to keep it. I think they'll know best what's bad for them and what isn't.
