Congrats Alireza Firouzja for breaking 2800 live rating!

I’m a Carlsen fan, but objectively speaking Alireza is a greater talent than Carlsen was. Without Corona he could have been 2830 now.

I'm not ripping on him, he's great, but he hit 2800 playing weaker players than Carlsen. He hasn't beat a single 2700+ this month, despite playing four (with a score of 1.5/4 against them), but he's played an insane amount of 2500 and 2600 players. If Carlsen only played 2500s and 2600s he'd be 2900 in no time.
if it was that easy, why wouldnt everyone do it? yet you see a lot of super GMs dropping points against pesky 2600s. terrible
I like @ballsmaster69 ‘s point. Certainly it’s very impressive that Alireza hit 2800. However, when thinking about Carlsen’s rise to the top - one remembers that he did it while playing against the world elite. I remember a point where Kramnik referred to Carlsen as an alien... someone who plays chess at an unfathomable level - even against the best of the best. Alireza has shown that he can dominate 2600s. How does he fair against the elite?

Still, I will say it’s very exciting to see Alireza‘a progress as a player. I am rooting for him to replicate his success against world class players. While it certainly looks like he might be a world championship contender, I’m not yet 100% convinced. I guess we’ll know the answer to that when he plays in the next candidates tournament.
