Most of the Bollywood dance is just advertisement for a song.
Sometimes they make a whole movie, just to promote a song.
Other times they do it as a way to describe emotions.
It's an Indian cultural thing I suspect.
And perhaps a reason why Bollywood is not taken seriously outside of India.
But Bollywood have conveyed many a good stories.

When I was on a flight to New Zealand recently, there was an (Indian?) passenger sitting in front of me. You could tell it was probably one of his first flights ever. After the stewardess had explained to him how the entertainment system/headphones work, he watched one Bollywood movie after another for over 5 hours and was happy about everything :D
