Lichess lags a lot for me in between games, for instance:
- to load the tournaments page
- to join a tournament
- to join a game
- when I "go back to tournament" after a game
Any of these actions takes a few seconds I would say 2-3 on average, with the "wheel" going round and round several times. I could upload a video to show what I mean. Not only it's a bit frustrating to wait several seconds for all these actions to complete, but I also suspect that the (much shorter) lag handicaps me during the games, although I am not certain. If it matters, I'm playing on my phone.
Since my internet connection at home is supposed to be excellent, I always assumed that the issue was on the Lichess server end, and I figured that the Lichess devops people deem it acceptable to have lag for actions outside of games as long as the lag is kept to a minimum during games.
However it so happens that I am visiting a friend in a different apartment this week, and to my surprise, the day I arrived, no delay! The games and tournaments actions loaded instantly. I also thought that the moves while playing games were more fluid. It was such a breeze to play in these conditions, I really felt I had been missing out. I figured something must be wrong with my connection back home, but I don't know what exactly, because it's not the bandwidth and it's not the ping. But I did notice that web pages take a while to "kick in" sometimes in my browser, although as soon as they do load it's instantaneous. I wish I had more knowledge about networks to understand what that means (DNS resolution problem? Server lag?)
But today, while I'm still at my friend's apartment, the lag for "exterior actions" is back. So I don't know what to think. Can anyone please tell me that they know what I'm talking about and that I'm making sense? I really would like to know if the issue comes from my end or Lichess's.
